the man behind the revival of the confederate flag issue is going to be putting a gay marriage amendment to the vote of the people of georgia. this is a guy who knows how to rile up georgians who otherwise wouldn't be voting, which i guess is a good thing, except that he's riled them up around two of the most divisive issues we have in this country.

my sister's going to be getting married in georgia in the fall. i hadn't given much thought to the idea that if you get married as a straight person when gay people aren't allowed to, you're participating in the discrimination. but in a political climate where everything is being done to divide rather than unite, it's hard not to see my family as ending up on the wrong side of the division.
