evil porn

found this article from sullivan. pretty fucked up. i guess i'm just trained to believe that anything adults want to do, think about, look at, enjoy, marry, whatever, should be okay. i may not personally get turned on by it, but i can understand the humanity in the impulse, and i don't judge it. how liberal of me.

but that's why my mind is always so boggled when i read about people who don't believe that adults have the right to do whatever they want. also, that (non-forced, of-age) porn is not a victimless crime. who are the victims of pornography? the poor souls who give in to temptation and sacrifice their morals, their marriages, and everlasting life in heaven.

86 percent of convicted rapists look at porn, eh? i'd estimate that 90 percent of non-rapist men look at porn regularly. so maybe not looking at porn causes people to act on evil impulses. maybe we should criminalize non-porn-watchers.

but why would we do something based on facts in this country?

update: from a woman who divorced her husband because of his "addiction to porn:"
"He said that's what the Internet is for. I thought it was for ordering from L.L. Bean catalogues."

update again: this is just wonderful.
